TAKAKA MEDICAL AND NURSING SUBSIDIES
FARMERS’ UNION SEEKS INFORMATION HOSPITAL BOARD S REPLY At Monday night’s meeting of the Takaka branch of the Farmers’ Union a reply to the branch’s inquiry about subsidies payable on account of medical and nursing services was received from the Nelson Hospital Board. The reply stated that, “subject to review at any time, should circumstances in the opinion of this board so warrant and provided that as far as possible and consistent with the facilities available, all cases requiring treatment be dealt with locally, irrespective of the financial circumstances of the patient, subsidies at the rate of £BO per annum each are at present paid by this board to the following: Sister-in-Charge, Dr. Bydder's Hospital. Takaka; Mrs Lash. Maternity Home. Takaka. “In the light of altered circumstances, arising from the recent introduction of Medical, Hospital and Maternity Benefits under the Social Security Act, this board proposes to review all such subsidies payable throughout the hospital district at the earliest opportunity.”
