A NELSON CHRONOLOGY 9th April. 1842: “Mr Co tie re II came on a pah * in the j Waimeas) after burning the flax. It is j described as being very similar to a Roman Camp, one side being formed by the steep bank of a tributary stream of the Weiti (Wai-iti): the remainder being protected by a ditch and cat them rampart. This pah is called Pohare aftei a chief or tribe. It does not seem very clear to which the name belonged. Note: This probably stood on section 155, Waimea South on which site a Pah is elsewhere described with some of 'ts ( palisading still standing. j An account of Mr Tuckett’s expedition to Massacre Bay published.—" Nelson Examiner.”
