V.R.. formerly of Auckland, was recently promoted to lieutenant-comman-der, making a total ot 17 New Zealand lieutenant-commanders. New Zealand thus lias a higher percentage of lieu-tenant-commanders now serving in the R.N.V.R. than any other country of the Empire. Lieutenant-Commander B. T. Giles, Wellington, is one of the outstanding members of the R.N.Z.N.V.R. He was promoted after only two years as lieutenant, instead of the normal four years, being thus honoured be - cause he carried out special service.
