MOTUEKA METHODIST CHURCH Favoured by lovely weather the garden party held at the residence of Mr S. E. Hulbert, “Inglenook,” Poole street, was an unqualified success. There was a large attendance of friends representing ah the churches. The stalls were arranged under the shrubbery, and seats were provided for all in the shade of the trees. The produce stall was presided over by Misses Mary James and Shirley Wratt. The sweets and ice cream stall was in the hands of the Misses Monica, Jessie and Margaret Parker. Mrs Chambers and Misses May and Dora Herrick had charge of the cake stall, while Misses Dawn McNabb and Margaret Parker were at the gate. The Methodist Ladies’ Guild provided afternoon tea. Games were indulged in under the guidance of Mrs L. Cowin. The choir girls, under the leadership of Miss Monica Parker, entertained the company with folk dancing on the lawn, also a skit on “Dorothy Bell.” Both were enthusiastically received. The Rev. T. Coatsworth thanked Mr S. E Hulbert and Mrs Wesney for the use of their beautiful home and gardens, all the ladies who had so willingly helped to make the function such a sfuccess, and others who had sent apologies, and gifts with them.
