It was decided to proceed with the necessary formalities, the Mayor stating that it would require a month to advertise and arrange fox a poll to be taken on the proposal The date fixed for the poll is Thursday. 12th March, and a meeting of ratepayers will be held on sth March, when full information about the proposal will be placed before those concerned. It was also decided to complete negotiations with the Nelson City Council for the supply of water so that a formal agreement could be drawn up on the terms agreed upon by the Council. Cl LNi:RA L BUSIX ESS Other matters were disposed of as Dairy farmers using the borough water supply for milk cooling are to be required to instal meters and pay for the water so used. The Mayor explained that this came under the heading of "Extraordinary Supply,” and under the regulations should be metered. Members of the Independent Mounted Rifles are to be offered special facilities in the use of the Borough Library. A room is also to be made available to members of the Patriotic Committee for entertainment of the men. A request from the W.W.S.A. for the i use of tiie Institute Hall for camouflage net making classes was granted. Four canvas bags are to be procured for the St John Ambulance emergency chest. The Plunket Committee is to be provided with certain supplies required for emergency purposes. It was decided that an extra man be employed to assist in cutting grass and doing up the Cemetery. It was pointed , out that with the reduced staff it was becoming difficult to cope with ordinary work. FOREMAN’S REPORT The foreman's report stated : j The painting of the kerbs and raili ings has now been completed. Cutting 1 the gorse and blackberries, also repairing the fences at the reservoir has been ! finished. Stop-cocks have been repaired in Salisbury road. Wenslev road. Hill , street and Crescent street, and a water service in Church street has been dis- . connected and plugged. A further section of plots at the Cemetery has been pegged out. also the boundary fence ' has been repaired, but several posts and droppers will be required in this 1 fenr« in the near future. A list has been handed to the Town Clerk of-i dairies using the borough water supply for milk coolers. Some property own-' ers have not yet complied with the by- j law in regard to putting drinking ! ( troughs in order. The paring and widening of William street is progressing satisfactorily. Regular work at ' the Cemetery and Town Hall has received attention. The reservoir is six inches below the spillway.
