POSITION IN MOTUEKA MONTHLY MEETING OF SOCIETY The monthly meeting of the Motueka Patriotic Society, held in the Council j Chambers, was attended by the Mayor, j Mr W. J. Eginton (chairman). Messrs i G. W. Manifold, A. F. Webley, H. j Brownlie, P. B. Calder, N. J. Lewis, B. , Warren, A. L. Kirk and Mesdames L. j Inwood, L. Cowin, ancl W. M. Thomas. I A letter was received from the Nel- j son Provincial Patriotic Council as- i iknowledging the society’s letter in re-, spect to a certain returned soldier and ! forwarding copy of the replies received j | from the representations made in re- ; gard to this man. Following a discus- j ! sion it was decided on the motion of j Messrs A. F. Webley and P B. Calder j that the chairman and secretary draft a ! letter in reply pointing out that this j committee was very dissatisfied with j the results of its representations and j that it was still of the opinion that the j matter should be attended to by the ( War Pensions Department, and felt that ; | every effort should be made to procure this result even to the extent of a petition to Parliament. TREASURER’S REPORT The treasurer, Mr L. W. Leppien, submitted a statement of collections for the month of January which showed the following figures for the Motueka area: Canvassers, £lB 3s lOd; Pangatotara School,£9 14s 9d; Shop and Office Employees (per H. Manoy). £9 15s Gel: Mrs F. W. Thorp, £1; Staff Vickerman’s Stores, £2 9s 7d; Mrs J. Pedder (Patriotic Cabbage), £2 8s; Motueka Women’s Division. £6 ss; S. E. Ilulbert. £2 2s; Parcels, £lO 16s; Riwaka Collections, £127 15s 2d: Moutere. £32 3s lid: Local Entertainment Fund, £23 8s 2d. Totals to date: Motueka Borough, £3583 4s 10d: Riwaka. £1986 18s Id.! Mould <•. £ 1686 9s lid. Total, £7236 ! 12s 10(1 Mr Webley reported that nothing had be* n done in regard to arranging a series of dances to raise funds in view of the fact that the Motueka Women’s Division were already holding weekly dances for this purpose. He also said that he would be unable to continue as pro tern canvassing organiser on account of pressure of business and asked to be relieved of these duties at the next monthly meeting of the society.
