LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Wellington, This Day. The Overseas Representatives Bill passed by the Legislative Council before it adjourned until 19th March. Replying to questions the Leader of the Council, the Hon. D. Wilson, said that the High Commissioner was covered by the measure because it would be an invidious distinction if the High Commissioners appointed to other Dominions as a temporary measure were deprived of their seats in the Legislature while others were not. It could happen that t.he High Commisisoncr to London could hold office and a seat for most of the term of Parliament but it jvas not the intention of the Governi ment to disfranchise any electorate in j that way. Before the adjournment j was taken Mr Wilson asked members to do their utmost to help the Dominion’s war effort during the present uncheering war situation. —P.A.
