TWO NAZI PLANES DESTROYED
SHOT DOWN BY GUNFIRE BOTH CRASH IN SEA (Rec. 2.0 p.m.) Kugby, Feb. 4. An Admiralty communique states: i “Two Ju 88 dive-bombers were shot I clown into the sea by gunfire. One 1 aircraft attempted to attack our con ' voy but it was damaged by tracers and ! transferred its attack to another ship, i which put up a heavy barrage. The 1 Ju 88 was seen to swerve and its bombs fell harmlessly into the sea. A few ! moments later the aircraft crashed ini the middle of the convoy, its port wing-top hitting the water and slam - i ming the bomber on its back. No casualties or damage were suffered by our ships or escort.
“The other Ju 83 was shot down by the Britomart. The aircraft attacked the minesweeper from a low level, but was hit by anti-aircraft lire and crashed into the sea in flames. One rating was killed and one wounded and the ship suffered superficial damage.’’—B.O.W.
