THAI DECLARATION
WAR ON BRITAIN AND U.S.A. (Rec., 11.32 a.m.) Rugby, Feb., 4. ! Confirmation of the Thai declaration |of war on Britain and the United ; States has been received from the Swiss Government, who are looking after British interests in Thailand. A 'state of war was declared by the Thai Government to exist from noon on 25th ! January. It is not considered in I authoritative circles that the Thai action makes any practical difference to the Far Eastern situation. Ever since | the arrival of Japanese, Thailand has i been regarded as enemy occupied terriI tory and Britain felt justified in attack- | ing Japanese on Thai territory and attacking Thais when, as is known to have happened on one occasion, they (fought with the Japanese. The Prime (Minister of Thailand. Pibul. is regarded here as the chief figure behind Thailand’s treacherous actions. This is the second occasion on which "the first j quisling of the Orient” has sold his (country to the Japanese. The first was J when he more or less handed himself {over to the Japanese by his aid in Indo- * China. As a reward for this he received a large slice of Indo-China.—P.A.
