ALLIED LOANS TO CHINA
LEASE-LEND SUPPLIES FROM BRITAIN London, Feb. 2 China is to receive munitions and other supplies from Britain under a lend and lease agreement. 1 All the munitions and military equipment that can possibly be 1 supplied by the British and United States will be shipped to Chungking. It is announced in London thal munitions and military equipment will be pooled under the lend and lease agreement, and that a loan of up tc £50.000.000 will be available to China for war purposes, on terms to be arranged between the British and Chinese Governments. It is stated that this is in accordance with the policy of the British Government in aiding China financially as well as militarily in the war • against the Axis Powers. A Washington message says that President Roosevelt has asked Coni gress to approve a loan of 500,000,000 1 dollars for China. FURTHER CHINESE GAIN London, Feb. 2. A Chungking communique says that I the Chinese are exerting increasing : pressure against the Japanese in the Canton area and have captured Shek- ! lung on the Pearl River estuary. The Chinese also report that a raidI ing Japanese mobile column at Loyang was repulsed with 300 casualties.
