MINIATURE RIFLES
MOTUEKA CLUB MEETS SOCIAL EVENING At a social evening, held by the Motueka Miniature Rifle Club, in the [ cl übroomubroom oil Wednesday trophies won during the season were presented by the Deputy-Mayor. Mr A. E. Fry. Mr P. B. Calder. president, extended a welcome to those present and explained that the function had been held earlier than usual on account of the fact that a number of members would be entering camp m the near future. He had. he said, invited the Mayor. Mr W. J. Eginton. to make the presentations, but he was unable to be present. Mr Fry, in apologising for the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, stated that Mr Eginton, although not a member of the Miniature Rille Club, had always given it his support and, taken a very keen interest in its activities. He considered that the presence of such a large number at short notice was evidence of the popularity of the club’s president, Mr P. B. Calder, who had done so much for its progress. The Deputy-Mayor, in making the presentations, congratulated the winners on their success, especially Mr L. Evans on winning the Self- Help Cup. The trophy winners were as follows: Opening shoot (trophies donated by Mr G. Talbot) A grade, G. Manifold, B grade, R. Hart. Club shoots: No. 1. A grade, W. M. Thomas: B grade, E. Ryder. No. 2, A grade, R. Cattermole; B grade, E. Ryder. No. 3. A grade, J. Lusty; B grade, R. Peacock. No. 4. A grade, L. Evans; B grade. A. Weir. No. 5, A grade, L. Evans; B grade, A. Weir. No. 6, A grade, S. Mather; B grade, J. Dove. No. 7. A grade. L. Evans; B grade, It. Peacock. No. 8, A grade. J. Lusty; B grade, B. Knight. Grouping, A grade, K. Rowling; B grade. C. Greive. Self-Help Cup. special handicap competition (two shoots of 10 shots each) L. Evans. Club championship, A grade, (trophy donated by Mr L. Evans). R. Cattermole; B grade 'trophy donated by Mr P. B. Calder), B. Knight. Mr W. M. Thomas, on behalf of members, thanked the club for providing trophies for the various competitions, and congratulated the officials who purchased them on their wise selection. After supper members spent the remainder of the evening in a pleasant game of cards.
