DEFENCE OF NELSON AREA

STAFF DUTIES Detailed work uf the defence of the Nelson area is now under the direction j of the recently appointed Area Com- '■ mander. Lieut.-Colonel C. R. Duke, 1 M.C. His duties include the alloting) of operational tasks for all Home Guard ; and National Reserve units, in the j area, as well as the preparation of de- j tensive works. Sub-areas such as j Hokitika, Greymouth, Westport, Takaka Motueka and Kaikoura will be under the immediate command of senior officers on the spot, who in turn will be responsible to the Area Commander, j Blenheim'and environs will be under j the control of Lieut.-Colonel A. C. i Nathan. The Area Commander is also !in charge of the Murchison and Reefton ureas where at the present time he is visiting the Home Guard units. ! Major F. H. Grear, M.C.. has taken over the duties of Area Staff Officer from Lieut. Colonel Duke and will be in charge of all administrative work throughout the district and he will have Captain H. Williams as Assistant Area Officer. Lieutenant P. S. Boyes has been appointed General Stall’ Officer 111 to the Area Commander.
