LARGE PIER DESTROYED
FIRE IN NEW YORK (Rec., 11.30 a.m.) New York, Jan., 8. Hudson River piers at the corner of 43rd Street in the centre of New York City caught fire early in the morning. All the New York brigade, aided by fire boats worked desperately to prevent fhe fire spreading. The fire destroyed a large pier owned by the South American and South African steamship lines and also a number of barges. Mr La Guardia, Mayor of New York, is standing by. Three firemen are missing. The F. 8.1. is investigating.—U.P.A.
