MEN FOR DEFENCE WORKS
fTo the Editor] Sir,—l entirely agree with the corres- i pondent who challenges the sports of | Nelson to come forward on Saturdays for essential defence work. Go to the sports grounds every Saturday, yes, and also Sundays, and you will see these chaps enjoying themselves while the E P.S. and Home Guard are digging tienches. The E.P.S. Controllers ask urgently for men to do some defence work. Urgency means necessity. If the so-called sports will not voluntariv offer their services, the E.P.S. Controllers and Army Service might with advantage picket the sports reserves. This could also apply to some of the “men in the street” whose best effort is to hope the news will be better tomorrow,—l am, etc., SERVICE. i Ne’son, 9th Januai-y.
