HOLIDAY RACING INCREASE OF £87,000 Investments totalling well over £500.000 kere put through the totalis--1 the Dominion over the Jong Labour Lay week-end. Compared with last year there was an increase of £87.376 16s. this year’s total being £548.001. 1 Last tear £460.625 10s was wagered 1 < n the three days’ racing. The weather and other factors influenced the results. The holding of the Wellington Racing Club's third day on the holiday, instead of on a week-day as last year, made a difference of £50.305 on the one day. The Waikato Hunt meeting at Cambridge showed investments totalling £41.052 10s. an increase of £12.361 10s on last year, when very heavy rain fell. Decreases were shown at only two meetings, those of the Waverley Racing Club and the Poverty Bay Turf Club. A record turnover for the meeting was shown by the Grey mouth Trotting Club, the figure of £30.475 10s being an increase of £3604 10s on the 1940 result. The Wellington Racing Club held a three day meeting, at which an average of nearly £85.000 was put through the machine each day. The Auckland Trotting Club held races on two days, and theje Were fixtures of similar length at Greymouth and Gore. The other clubs’ meetings were one day fixtures.
