SNOW ON EGMONT
UNSEASONABLE FALLS d' GOOD SKI-ING CONDITIONS g! New Plymouth, Oct . 28. For the first time in nine years at e Dawson Falls, and scarcely recalled at o ; either the Stratford resort or the North MEgmont hostel, fresh lulls of snow it greeted Labour Day week-end visitors: r| to Mount Egmont. Five inches of snow o 1 lay round Dawson Falls hostel on Salsi urday, and another half-inch fell on v j Sunday morning. e! Nine years ago the Mount Egmont tj Alpine Club arranged to hold ski-ing e j trials on the slopes of Fantham's Peak e|at Labour Day week-end, bu. three or e j four inches of snow fell at the hostel, d.and owing to the conditions higher up ■s it was necessary to hold the trials on i* the ski track. The fall this year was -1 much heavier, however. Good ski-ing s was experienced on the Kapuni slopes 1- j to the right of the Zig-zag. r' New Plymouth people who thought d j that summer was. not far off had a s J shock on Saturday when clouds i lifted from over the Pouukai ranges to d reveal them coaled with snow down to 1- I the foothills. For the ranges to receive’ is | such an extensive fall, even in the - depths of winter, is unusual. People s who have lived near t • mountain for e; many years could not recall ever it | having seen the ranges so completely ■
