FIRST FLIGHT VIA SUVA
PLANS FOR PACIFIC CLIPPER FORTNIGHTLY SERVICE Auckland, Oct.. 28. The first flight to Auckland via Suva j jwili be made by the Pacific Clipper, j which will leave San Francisco on Sun. day, antf is clue here on Saturday. Bth i November. j It was expected that after the first trip the Clippers would arrive at Auck I land every second Wednesday and J leave the following clay to return to: San Francisco, via Suva, said Mr P. ;S. Delany, South Pacific traffic manager of Pan-American Airways. The new ! route brought Suva within three days from the United States, six clays from London. 1£ clays from Auckland, and 2.'. ! I days from Sydney. The Clippers will jbe able to accommodate about 45 pasIsengers between Auckland and Suva, land heavier freight loads will be car-; j ried as less fuel will be required. Only i j about 20 to 24 passengers are taken on! the clippers at present, j Negotiations are still being carried j out to enable Pan-American Airways to I use Palmyra Island as a fuelling base; jon the flight between Canton Island 'and Honolulu. If permission is grant!ed to use the island a larger number [of passengers will be carried from j Auckland to Honolulu.—P.A. ———
