(OINTKY LIERAKV A mccimg was recently held al | Mapua to inaugurate a branch of the I Government Country Library Scheme, when a committee was appointed and arrangements made for housing the books, etc. A ,tart is being made with I some 25 members, and Mr Reid has kindly set a room at the disposal of thp committee for the accommodation of ihe books, to be open on Thursday , afternoons at 4.30 for half an hour. i■;ct on Saturday evenings at 7.30 for) two hours. The first consignment of, books has arrived, consisting of an ex-; eellent ancl varied selection which j Id appeal to all types of readers. | Officers and committee were elected j by the meeting, Mrs S. Thomas being | pro-ident. Miss Busch librarian secre- j inrv and treasurer, and Mesdames , P( ;t.v Reid. Scott. V. Wakefield, and ; Miss lola Austin members of commit-: nnim ha t>een r.'.ado; and there is no doubt that in i the near future the number of sub- | , gibers will be rapidly increased, and a still larger collection of books made available. These facilities will certainly be appreciated by the reading section j j the community, bringing another of Ihe amenities enjoyed by city dwellers to those who live in ihe more open j spaces of the land.
