DEEMED INADEQUATE

HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION IN DOMINION What was described as the inadequacy of hospital accommodation throughout the Dominion, particularly for returning sick and wounded members of the Forces, was discussed at the Dominion executive committee of the N.Z.R.S.A. Notwithstanding that extensions to public hospitals had been made and that certain convalescent hospitals were in course of erection, it was stated, the necessity for accommodation for members of the public was becoming increasingly great, particu larly with the social security medical and hospital provisions. The association realised that during the 1914-1918 war many thousands of New Zealand soldiers were treated in Britain and that this was not possible in the present war, therefore representations were being made to the appropriate authorities requesting that arrangements be made at the earliest possible moment for adequate hospital accommodation for sick and wounded members of the forces returning from this war. Hospital accommodation included facilities for out-patient treatment. for convalescent cases as well acot cases. The urgency of the problem wa>> stressed in view of the possibility ol further casualties when the New Zea land Division was again in action and the importance of having adequate accommodation quite ready when those v ho were sick and wounded arrived was apparent.
