LEAVE OF ABSENCE
COUNCILLOR ON ARMY SERVICE Councillor F. H. Sharland attended Inst evening's meeting of the Nelson j City Council in the uniform of an Army captain. Before the meeting closed he told the Mayor that he was to be stationed at Grevmouth for six or eight | months. He would be able to attend probably two out of three meetings of the council, but if members thought he should resign he would do so. He : offered lo leave the chamber while the j council discussed the matter. 1 The Mayor said there was no need for Councillor Sharland to leave the ; meeting. He was sure he was voicing the view of members when he said j he should not resign. He moved that 1 Councillor Sharland be granted leave cf ! absence. This was seconded by Cour I eillor S. A. Gibbs and carried.
