GERMAN MINISTER TO THAILAND
IMPORTED APPOINTMENT OF Dlt VVENDLER
I ACTIVITIES IN BOLIVIA RECALLED ■ (Rec., 1U.30 a.m.) Rugby, Oct.. 15. It is authoritatively stated in London 1 that there is reason to believe reports that the notorious Dr Evcnst Wendlcr j has been appointed German minister to 1 Thailand and that the Gestapo agent j Franz Hauebei has also been posted in that country. Dr Wendler was minister in Bolivia and a few months ago Ihe was ordered to leave at 24 hours' ! notice following the discovery of his ; activities in a plot to overthrow the existing Bolivian Government and set |up one more favourable to the Nazis jin its place. i Haueber became notorious by reason | of his activities in the Home Office at | Tokio where he established himself as j a first-class troublemaker. These two | men are regarded as exactly the type of person who would be sent to Bangkok if the Nazis decided that it would jbe useful to use the Thailand capital jas a place for fomenting trouble beI tween Japan and the democracies.— i 8.0.
