MEETING OF WARDENS

ARRANGEMENTS EOR EMERGENCY BI.OOI) TESTS TAKEN A meeting of E.P.S. wardens was held in the Municipal Chambers this I week. A roll call was made ot' the (enrolled 96 wardens; 87 were present and 6 were excused from attendance through sickness. Wardens were addressed by the chief j warden, Mr A. Harley, on routine ’subjects and issued with the practice ! books of report forms for use during any emergency rehearsal and also a : large sealed envelope containing the I book of report forms apd instructions, a note book, ten envelopes and a pencil, al’ of which are only to be used if the | country is unfortunate enough to suffer 1 disaster from enemy action or by other cause. The need for keeping these books, their armbands and warden’s i authority in a safe and easily accessible : place, was impressed on wardens. EMERGENCY REHEARSAL A letter was read from the ControlTer, the Mayor, in which he apologised for not being able to attend and stated 1 reasons why an emergency rehearsal could not be held on any Saturday j until late November. He wished to ! cause as little inconvenience as possible !to organised sport and other local I functions. He stated he was giving | consideration to an emergency rehearsal to take place at about six o’clock some evening in the near future. He wished to discuss the matter with the chief warden at an early date. Wardens checked up with their emergency books on details they are jto observe during any emergency. The 1 organisation is ready for any emerj gency whether real or imaginary and will be able to give a good account of itself. It is felt that rehearsals -are l needed, however, to eliminate any I weakness tha. may exist and to keep j the organisation efficient and to learn |to co-operate with other sections of EPS. Most wardens have been in~ istructed in first aid during the last two 1 months and some fifteen have had ; their blood typed so as to be in the | position to either give or receive blood at very short notice. The result of the ; typing was read to the meeting and it that only four wardens arc universal donors, ten are type A and on. type B. | The Chief Warden expressed his dis- ! i approval of the mob parade of E.P.S. 1 workers at the recent civic gathering I to take part in the National Day of j Prayer meeting. It was decided that j before the monthly meeting in future (wardens will fall in outside the Municipal Offices and learn the first lessons iof military drill so that they can turn Tout on future public occasions and i show some semblance of organised (training. The question of obtaining a 1 lapel badge for everyday wear was discussed. About half the wardens said (they would not wear it if it was obtained while the other half expressed a desire to wear it. This matter is left to the general committee of the E.P.S. • for decision.
