GRANDSTAND DEMONSTRATION
FIRE POWER OF NEW HURRICANE GERMAN CONVOY SHOT UP (Rec. 11.35 a.m.) London, Oct. 12. j People at Ramsgate this morning 1 v ere given a thrilling grandstand rie- ! monstration of the firing power of the new Hurricane when they saw at least two enemy ships destroyed during a sweep by Hurricanes over the Channel. Visibility was so good that the enemy convoy could be seen travelling down the French coast from the direction of ! l Dunkirk. Hurricanes, some carrying | j four cannon and others twelve maj chine-guns, dived to the attack almost I
| | ! immediately. One ship blew up and the Hurricanes then made a mass at tack on a larger ship which was set on : fire and then exploded leaving a pall of smoke hanging over the spot. German long-range guns on the : French coast fired several shells into 1 I the Dover area in the afternoon at in- | tervals of about five minutes. Shattering explosions shook coastal build- , ings. —U.P.A.
