TWO RECEIVE AWARDS Whangarei, This Day. Two Whangarei airmen. Squadron Leader Derek Ward and Squadron Leader Douglas Morrish have received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Aii Force Cross respectively, according to official cables received to-day. Squadron Leader Ward has been in the fighting throughout the war and is now commander in the Middle East of a squadron known as “Cobber Kain’s.” Squadron Morrish has been instructor at a flying school iu the north of England since shortly after the outbreak of war. A large number of New Zealanders have passed through his hands. PORTIONS OF PLANE W ASHED ASHORE Masterton, This Day. A wheel, struts and portions of a wing of an aeroplane were found washed up on the beach at Cape Palliser on Saturday afternoon. The Air Department were advised and instructions have been sent for the pieces of wreckage to be forwarded to Welling ton for identification. TRAINING PILOT FATALLY INJURED New Pl>mouth. This Day. The following air casualties were officiallv announced to-day Pilot Officer Douglas James Jamieson. R.N.Z.A F.. previously reported missing, believed killed, death now officially presumed to have occurred in July. * Mrs J. Jamieson, Christchurch (wife'. . Sergeant Douglas Portcous, R.N Z.A.F., previously reported missing, now reclassified as interned. Mr J. B. Porteous. Dunedin (father).
