Jmtoor Basket--0 ball Association, were witnessed by a semi finals were played. It the first game Y.M.C.A. defeated Athletic by 27 I to 28 in an exciting and evenly contested game. At the end of the usual *’ playing period the score was 21 all. During the extra five minute period ‘ f Y.M.C.A. scored 3 goals to Athletics _ 1, thus making them the winners. In ( l the second game. Air Force defeated 1C Iron Duke by 22 to 14. The Iron Duke t j boys played a good game, but were )r most unlucky in their goal shooting. The final game of the men's knockout tourney between Air Force and Y.M.C.A. was one of the fastest yet witnessed. Good catching and team work were a feature of the game, each team II Lying to gain the lend, spurred on by ‘ s enthusiastic supporters. Y.M.C.A. fl opened the scoring with K. Gay gain- ° ing a penalty goal. Air Force then took 1 j possession but were unable to find the i basket. For the next two minutes the J ball travelled rapidly up and down . the court, neither team scoring. After Ha strong attacking movement Y.M.C.A. ' gained possession and passed to M. Dayman, who was successful in making r the basket in a long shot. During the next three minutes Air Force had most of the ball, but were unlucky in their goaling. Their score was opened by McLachlan, who netted two penalty goals, making the score 10-6 in favour of Y.M.C.A. The struggle for possession continued, both teams strongly attacking and defending, but neither being lucky in finding the basket. Stevenson scored for Air Force and ! H Muncaster scored for Y.M.C.A. just i prior to the half-time whistle, making | the half time score Y.M.C.A. 11, Air Force 8. In the second spell Air Force | opened strongly, putting Y.M.C.A. on S the defensive. Stevenson quickly scori cd for the former, making the score 11 to 10. Y.M.C.A, tried hard to keep 5 their one point lead, but Air Force, by using their height to advantage, gave them few opportunities of getting near their goal. The score was evened up bv McLachlan who scored another penalty goal. Y.M.C.A. had three unsuccessful attents at scoring. Air Force g; mg two goals in quick succession by Newall and Stevenson, making the final • score, Air Force 15. Y.M.C.A. 11. During the evening the annual goal throwing competition was held for the Zcna Chennclls Cup in the ladies’ section. and the W. Lamb and K. Gay Cup in the men’s. Good entries were received. there being 21 lady and 17 men contestants. Each competitor had 10 consecutive attempts at the goal from various marked positions. Out of all entrants, only 5 ladies and 3 men were successful in converting the goal from the free-throw line, a throw at which | every player should be proficient. P. : Cortzen won the Ladies’ Cup, with a ■ total of 7 goals. S. Barry and J. Cur- J rin (last year’s winner) being a close second with 6 goals each. In the men’s section D. Brown was the winner with : 5 goals, N. Clarke and D. Rollo run- ! ners-up with 4 goals each. The evening concluded with the pro- j sentation of trophies by Mr K. McKen- j zie. The secretary of the association, j ; Mr K. R. Gay, then made a presenta- I j tion of an engraved fountain pen to Mr j McKenzie, a loyal supporter of indoor j basketball, who is leaving the city, j Trophy winners were as follows: — !
