MAGISTRATE’S COURT
COLLING WOOD SITTING At the bi-monthly sitting of the Collmgwood Magistrate’s Court, before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., lour first offenders appeared on charges of being found on licensed premises after hours. Three of the accused were convicted and lined 10s and 12s costs, and the fourth was convicted and lined 15s and 12s costs. CIVIL CASES The Collingwood County Council claimed arrears of rates (£283 16s 7d> from H. S. Prouse. At the June sitting of the Court, defendant admitted liability for £260 9s 9d. and the case in reference to the disputed portion of the claim (£23 6s 10d> was adjourned. At tliis month’s sitting plaintiff admitted that the claim for the amount in dispute could not succeed, and elected not to proceed. Judgment was entered for plaintiff for £263 4s 9d, and the balance of the claim struck out. Costs were allowed defendant. A defended case, G. Andrae v. F. W. Tyree, was adjourned to allow plain- | tiff’s evidence to be taken at Waipu- | kurau. In a judgment summons case, Transj port (Nelson) Ltd. v. C. F. McKenna, for £2 17s. an older was made that ! unless debtor pays the amount of judgment unsatisfied and costs, he be committed to prison for three days, warlrnt to be suspended for one month. In a further judgment summons case, Wilkins and Field Ltd. v. N. H. O. Thomas, for £4 6s Id. an order was made that unless judgment debtor pays amount of judgment unsatisfied and costs, he be committed to prison for four days, warrant to jje suspended so long as he pays £ 1 per month.
