PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE MEETING REPORT ON CONFERENCE ' A meeting of the Nelson Provincial ! Executive of the N.Z.F.U. held in the Waimea County Council Chambers was attended by Messrs R. C. T. Raine 'chairman), W. B. North, J. Dicker, A. E. Max, A. N. Wilkinson, G. L. Mead, J. S. Bartlett. J. S. Bailey, C. C. Bird, A. G. Moore, D. I. Llewellin, O. C. Wilkinson, L. G. McMurtry and F. H. Gill, proxy for G. P. Dixon. A letter was received from the Pig Marketing Association’s secretary. Takaka regarding the appointment of Mr W. D. Dron as the association representative on the executive. Brief mention was made of preliminary work in the formation of a calf pool and some of the local difficulties in handling both pigs and calves. Mr Mead reported that because the calf pool had not yet been gazetted, the position was still vague. A meeting was to be held and transport for the collection of calves had been tentatively arranged. It was arranged that a circular to branches be prepared from information supplied to the secretary by the pool secretary. ! The Marlborough executive wrote suggesting “That the allocation of I monies raised by authorised art unions t for such objects as the Minister of Internal Affairs may specify, be made public. This was passed to the group i delegate to support at the Dominion j Executive meeting. ! The Tasman-Mapua branch wrote about the unsatisfactory condition which ' exists regarding compensation for in jjured men in home guard service and j asked the executive to endeavour to ! have the position remedied. It was resolved on the motion of | Messrs Llewellin and Mead, “That the I Tasman branch supply details of the j case in question for submission to the Dominion executive for action.” The Moutere branch requested that •44 46 super be made obtainable for top ■ dressing in place of reverted super and • was prepared to take a smaller percentage f necessary. 1 The chairman pointed out that this | matter was out of the hands of the j union and the letter was received. The wheat committee declined to j open the Richmond flour mill. A reso i lution “That the letter be received” was i subject to an amendment by Messrs | Max and Dicker, “That whilst in Wel- ; lington Mr Raine refer the matter to | j iMr Mulholland.” The amendment was j i . carried and afterwards carried as the j j • motion. Dominion office circulars were rcceivjed as follows: (1) Regarding post-war marketing of wool. The Dominion > plan was endorsed on the motion of ! Messrs Dicker and O. C. Wilkinson. (2) j Legal opinion regarding cattle stops: It i was arranged that the main points of this circular be duplicated and distrib- ) uted to branches. A report on the Dominion conference was given by the delegate. Mr O. C. Wilkinson, who confined his report to the matter of the most important conference debates and stressed the need i for good attendances at branch meet i ings. when he promised fuller reports. Special mention was made by Mr , Wilkinson of the re-election of Mr K. iJ. Holyoake as Dominion vicc-presi-i dent. A report on the progress of the formation of a parent body for all pro ducers’ organisations was given in a message from Mr Holyoake through Mr O. C. Wilkinson and the secretary. It was pointed out by Mr A. N. Wil kinson that although hop and tobacco growers were members of the executive there were no officially nominated members of these organisations on the executive. The secretary was instructed to write to the secretaries concerned asking for nominations. Mr Bartlett said that the fruitgrowers j were disappointed in the action taken I by the Primary Producers’ Council in j restraining the Fruit Federation repre- ; sentative from speaking to the Appeal ; Board in Motueka in the name of the j council in support of an appeal by fruit ! j Mr Raine explained that the limita- J lions of the council were that they j could submit relative fads to the Man- j power Committee and make recommen- j dations to the Appeal Board. This was j a constitutional bar that was under j ' consideration and application for re | moval. The council were at present j waiting its decision from the Director :of National Service. Accounts totalling £65 15s lOd were passed for payment.
