MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SITTING AT TAKAKA At a sitting of the Takaka Magistrate’s Court, before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., Harold A. Manson pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a car for which there was no warrant of fitness, and was convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10s. To a further charge of driving without a license, the accused pleaded guilty and was fined £1 and costs. The charges arose out ef a mishap which occurred on the Tarakohe highway on 22nd June, the circumstances, as stated by Constable A. C. Strawbridge, being that the accused was returning home from a party when he ran into a telegraph pole. Mr C. W. Thorp, who appeared for the accused, said that the car was not Manson’s, but belonged to Cecil Sp ncer and the accused was not aware that it carried no warrant of The magistrate said the accused might be excused for his ignorance about the warrant, but he f v no excise for his driving withou*. a license. On a charge of aiding and abetting Harold A. Manson in the use of a car without a warrant of fitness, Cecil Blackburn Spencer was convicted and fined 10s and 10s costs. CIVIL CASES Judgment by default was given in the civil case, D. Goodwin v. L. G. Hart ' for £ 1 8s Id (costs 12s). I: a judgment summons case, H. ' Baigent and Sons, Limited v. T. R. Spain, judgment debtor was sentenced ’ to eight days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as he pays the amount of judgment, £8 7s 2d at the rate of £ 1 a month. Judgment debtor in a further judgment summons case, Burns Philp and Company v. J. Morgan, was ordered to pay the amount of judgment, £4 Os Bd, at the rate of £1 a month, in default four days’ imprisonment.
