GIFT PARCELS
PATRIOTIC COUNCIL’S APPRECIATION “During the period under review two batches of gift parcels totalling 1920 in number have been despatched as the council's quota of the number required from the whole Dominion,” stated the report of the Nelson Provincial Patriotic Council to a general meeting last evening. “The system inaugurated by the executive’s Parcel Committee, (under the direction of Mr J. A. Harley) has proved both economical and efficient. It has, moreover, so far been carried out without any charge upon the Provincial Fund though of course the sums contributed for gift parcels have been passed through the fund. The executive believes too that contributors welcome the opportunity which the system at fords of making direct contact with the men at the front. That the parcels and the personal messages sent with them are appreciated is amply evidenced by the many letters which have been received from time to time. “The executive again records its gratitude to the Parcels Committee and to the willing band of helpers both in Nelson and throughout the province who have carried out the many tasks involved in the collection of contributions, and in the packing and despatch of the parcels.”
