PETAIN’S INCOME
INVESTMENTS IN LON DONPAYMENT NOW STOPPED London, July 19. I London is holding up money which provided Marshal Retain with a private income. Before the fall of France, the Marshal, acting on expert advice! sold his securities and bought a life annuity in London. His quarterly in[come is now held under the Defence Regulations. His agents have approached the American Embassy in I Paris and a big banking interest in the United States is also negotiating for him. j Officials of the British Foreign Office have been appealed to and a conference has been held at the Bank of Engj land. I The result, however, was unfavourable. Marshal Petain’s money is still held by the Custodian of Enemy Debts.
