CAR STRIKES CONCRETE BRIDGE Christchurch, Aug. 5. The accident in which the noted All Black. Jack Steel, was killed occurred in the early hours of Monday morning when a car he was driving struck concrete bridge and ran off the road at South Beach about three miles south of Greymouth. on the Hokitika -Greymouth highway. His one passenger. Mr Charles Jones, aged 35. single, a railway engine-driver of Greymouth. was admitted to the Grey Hospital with a compound fracture of the right leg and severe facia] injuries. When the car struck the bridge about two feet of the concrete abutment of the bridge was broken off anti the car then capsized down an eight foot bank. At 6.30 a.m. the occupantof a passing car saw a hub-cap *lvi n g on the bridge and on making investigations found the wrecked car. Mr Steel was dead and Mr Jones was unconscious. It is believed that the accident occurred soon after midnight. Mr Jones underwent an operation after admission to hospital, and lie later regained consciousness.—P A
