APPLEDY W.D.F.U. Mrs Care Cottrell presided over a well-attended meeting of the Appleby W.D.F.U. al Lansuownv Hall, ami wel- • omed three visitors. The resignation of Mrs Ching as reporter having been received. Mr. McAulay was appointed in her stead. Mrs Atmore gave a most interesting address on the W.W.S.A., and after an enjoyable afternoon tea erved by Mesdames Haycock and Neimann. she gave a greatly appreciated talk on her travels in the U.S.A. The competitions were as follows: Float bowl. Mrs Tear. Miss Robinson 2, Mrs Hollis 3; cut bloom, Mrs Tear 1, Mrs McAulay 2; best spring bulb, Mrs Robinson 1, Miss Z. Robinson 2, Mrs Haycock 3; pot plant, Mrs Tear 1. Mrs McAulay 2. Mrs Robinson 3; 61bs potatoes, Mrs Satherley 1, Mrs Tear 2, Mrs Haycock 3. These latter were sold by the Garden Circle and proceeds donated for patriotic work. A sales table also i did good business. A well-attended meeting of the garden and artcraft circle was presided over by Mrs Tear in the Sunday school. Two new' members were present. A ! demonstration of slipper-making from 1 old felt hats was given by Mrs CareCottrcll and was much appreciated, i while some members continued their j tapestry work. Thanks were also due to a member who had kindly brought j her hand machine for the use of the [ circle. A pleasant afternoon tea j brought the meeting to a close and the members dispersed after singing the ! National Anthem. Meetings of the plav-rcading circle are held every second Saturday evening at Mrs Care-Cottrell’s and the rehearsing of the nlavs is much enioved.
