SEVENTEEN VESSELS BAGGED
BRITISH SUBMARINE’S SUCCESS MEDITERRANEAN EXPLOITS dice. 10.10 a.m. ) London, July 28. One of Britain’s latest submarines has returned to port after bagging seventeen enemy vessels ranging from supply ships to caiques in two Mediterranean patrols recently announced in communiques. The commander narrated an incident before the sinking of the last ship from one German convoy. “I ordered the crew to the boats or I would lire but I had to send a boarding party to rout them (iff. A German tried to throw a hand grenade as the men clambered over the ship’s side but he was shot before it left his hand. Another Nazi tried to kill my number one by rifle fire and he went the same way. We then continued our patrol.” ITALIAN AIR COMMANDER KILLED (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) Rome, July 28. General Fedrigi Commander of the Italian Mediterranean air fleet was killed in a combat over Malta. Signor Ansaldo writing in the newspaper “Telegrafo” states that 420 planes participated in the three-day action against the British convoy in the Mediterranean. R.A.F. ACTIVE (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) London, July 28. R.A.F. fighters shot down two Savoias in flames yesterday off Malta. Our heavy bombers again raided Benghazi on the night of 26th-27th July.—U.P.A.
