SOUTH ISLAND MANAGERS VISIT TO TAKAKA In the course of his address in Takaka, Mr J. C. Carbines, manager of the South Island Herd Improvement Association, mentioned that for the Golden Bay Group the cost of testing per cow had been 7s 3d as against a per cow income of 6s lid, representing a loss of 4d. The position, he said, compared favourably with that in other groups. Waimea. for instance, had broken even, and in some other groups a loss of Is per cow had been shown. Mr Carbines paid a tribute to the keenness of Mr T. H. D. Symes, the Golden Bay group representative on the Mr C. How, consulting officer of the N.Z. Dairy Board, took the opportunity during his address of congratulating members in the Golden Bay Group on the high level of production disclosed in its group averages. When a group could show an average of over 3001 b per cow, it was a very fine achievement.” The group, he said, was fortunate in having a man of Mr Symes’s ability to represent it on the association. Mr How also paid a tribute to the efficiency and enthusiasm of Mr Carbines in his work as South Island manager. The meeting placed on record appreciation of the help given by Messrs Fulton and King in carrying on the testing during the illness of the association's recording officer. Mr Symes was re-elected as the group’s representative on the association.
