LEAVE FOR NEW ZEALAND TROOPS DOCTORS DEFT BEHIND WITH WOUNDED ! MESSAGE FROM GENERAL FREYBERG Wellington, This Day. The spirit and present activities of the New Zealand troops were referred to in a recent telegram Mr Nash. Act-ing-Prime Minister, received from General Frey berg. "The men who have been evacuated from Crete are in camp having well-earned leave and they are recovering quickly from the strain under which they were working,” said General Freyberg. “We are now getting dc vn to the job of refitting as quickly as possible Mr Fraser (Prime Minister) had seen and talked to all men in hospital and addressed the troops back from Crete on parade. During the anxious days of the evacuation Mr Fraser was indefatigable in ensuring that everything possible .was done to rescue the maximum number from Crete. I wish the Government to know also that everything possible has been done for the wounded, and doctors and R.A.M.C. personnel remained in Crete to care for them. “To the people of New Zealand who suffered loss in these campaigns the men of the N Z.E F send their deepest sympathy.”—P.A.
