BIBLES FOR U.S. ARMED FORCES
The boys in the armed services of the United States are adding the Bible, the world’s “best seller,” to their equipment. Reproduced in each book is r, letter from President Roosevelt. II reads:— “To the Armed Forces.—As Com-mander-in-Chtof I take pleasure in recommending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the sacred book words of wisdom, counsel, and inspiration. It is i fountain of strength, and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest asph-ations of the human soul. Very sincerely yours, Franklir D. Roosevelt.” The Gideon Society is sending pocket sized Bibles—-1.000,000 of them, at the rates of 5,000 a day, to the men in the army, navy and various training camps throughout the nation and in Hawaii. The books, bound in washable imitation leather, may be slipped into a tunic pocket. There are brown ones fo. the army, blue for the navy, and white for men in the Hawaiian service. —(Philadelphia correspondent of the I American Associated Press).
