HOSPITAL BOARD

LAST MEETING PRIOR TO ELECTION TWO MEMBERS NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION 1 I At yesterday's meeting of the Nelson | Hospital Board the chairman. Major R. 1 ! Dagger referred to the fact that it was j i the last meeting prior to the elections !at which two of the sitting members. < Messrs J. Fitz-Gerald and H. Tunnii cliff were not seeking re-election. I The chairman thanked the members |of the board for the loyal co-operation , they had given him as chairman and on behalf of the board and the people in the areas represented by Mr FitzGerald and Mr TunniclifTe he thanked j them for their services to the hospital : and to the district. In a letter to the board, Mr FitzGerald stated, inter alia. “As I have determined, for health reasons, to stay in the North Island meantime, may I thank you and your staff for many little acts of courtesy to me during my eight years with the board. I regret my severance of association with the board and staff and extend to them all good wishes.” Major Dagger said that without the co-operation of all the members of the board it would not have been possible !to achieve what the board had done. The keen interest of the board members , had resulted in his duties as chairman being pleasant. He referred to the fact , that Mr N. McConchie. Mrs P. Moffatt. ; and Mr C. L. Grant had been re-elected unopposed. By their service to the i board they had earned the confidence placed in them by the electors. Mr Tunnicliff thanked the board chairman and members and the staff for the courtesy which had always been extended to him. Each of the members seeking re-election had given great service to the board and to the district and he hoped that they would be returned at the elections. Mr A. A. Kenyon said it had been a pleasure to sit on the board under Major ; Dagger’s chairmanship, and he thanked ■ the chairman for the fair manner in . which all members had been treated. Mr N. McConochie said that the chair- ■ man and members had had differences . of opinion on many subjects but he had ■ always appreciated Major Dagger’s fear > lessness, fairness and courtesy. Mr Grant, Mrs A. Watson and Mrs : Moffatt also paid tributes to the work . of the chairman and to the staff.
