OBITUARY

MR FRANK HURLEY The death of Mr Frank Hurley, aged 57 years, occurred in Wellington last Sunday, following a long illness. A member of a w’ell-known Nelson family, Mr Hurley was formerly on the staff of Messrs J. H. Cock and Co., Nelson, being engaged in the insurance department. He later transferred to Wellington and became General Manager of the Mercantile and General Insurance Coy. In his younger days Mr Hurley was a prominent Nelson Rugby player. He attended Nelson College jn 1899-1900. Mr Hurley leaves a widow and one daughter, Miss Hughla Hurley {Wellington). MR EBENEZER HALE [United Press Association] MASTERTON, 11th February. The death occurred on Saturday of Mr Ebenezer Hale, Te Ore Ore road, Masterton. Born at Nelson in 1863, he was in his younger days an .outstanding oarsman, and rowed for the now defunct Wakatu Rowing Club. Representing this club, he took part in many of the regettas at Wellington and Nelson. For many years he was in close touch with the various horticultural societies in the Wairarapa, and he was j a foundation member of the New Zea- | land Horticultural Trades Association. I He was also a member of the Wairarapa Nurserymen’s Council, and one I of the first borough councillors for the I North Ward. He was chairman of . the Lansdowne School Committee and I a Masterton A. and P. Association member of long standing.
