EFFORT TO CLOSE BRITISH HARBOURS

GERMANY’S USE OF MINE-LaYING AIRCRAFT [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] (Received 2nd January, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Ist January. A Naval spokesman said: “Germany is making strenuous efforts to close the entrances to our harbours by mine-lay-ing aeroplanes and recently, also by E-boats. When the full history of the war is known, it will reveal the brilliant work of the torpedomen, scientific experts and minesweeper crews in defeating the enemy’s efforts. We have had anxieties and losses, but have never doubted that the enemy will fail in their objective.”
