HAVELOCK NORTH BLAZE

NO WATER SUPPLY AVAILABLE NATIONAL PARTY ORGANISER LOSES HOME fUnited Press Association] HASTINGS, 29th December. Fire completely destroyed the home of Mr Robert Tapper, Havelock North, organiser of the National Party in the district, early yesterday morning, the occupants having only time to escape in their night attire with a few clothes and a little bedding. The building was of modern wooden construction. When the Havelock North Volunteer Fire Brigade received the call at about 4 a.m. it was unable to do anything to save the building, which was outside the town district area where there was no water supplv. It is thought that the fire had its origin in the kitchen. The flames threatened a motor garage, two motorcars and a shed fui! of hay, but the efforts of the brigade with buckets were successful in saving these.
