Although a full count of the takings l at the Strickland-Alabama Kid box- ' ing match has not yet been made owing to the banks being closed, it is believed that the sum will constitute j a Dominion record for such a fixture. I The previous record was when Sarron j and Donovan fought at the Kilbirnie ' Stadium in Wellington and the takings were over £2300. Both contestants were fit yesterday morning, although Strickland had a slight soreness about the left eye and a strained muscle in his back. Alabama Kid had a pain in his right ear where Strickland caught him twice. Alabama Kid wants to meet Strickland again to see if he can turn the tables. He believes that he can.
