CENTENARIAN’S DEATH
KNOWLEDGE OF EARLY MINING VALUABLE SKETCHES OF WEST COAST TOWNS [United Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, 30th December. Eighteen days after he had celebrated the hundredth anniversary of his birthday, Mr Thornhill Cooper, a well-known citizen of Christchurch and one of few surviving New Zealanders with a personal knowledge of the very early mining days on the West Coast, died at his home in Papanui to-day. Mr Cooper’s sketches ot mining towns on the West Coast in 1868 are among the most valuable historical documents dealing with the days of the gold rushes.
