MOTUEKA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING HELD The monthly meeting of the Motueka Women’s Institute was held in St. Thomas’ Hall, Mrs L. Cowin presiding. As this was the Christmas meeting members of the Women’s Division were present and Mrs Inwood extended Christmas greetings on behalf of the Division. The meeting commenced with the singing of the Institute Ode and Aspirations. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs York in her recent bereavement. Arrangements were made for the annual picnic to be held at the Motueka Beach on 18th January. It was also decided to hold a garden party in aid of Federation funds at Mrs J. O. Anderson’s residence, Greenwood • street on 14th February. The motto for the month was “Peace on earth goodwill to men.” Miss Merle Stout commenced the programme with two songs “The Lass with the Delicate Air” and “Cherry Ripe.” The Institute choir rendered three Christmas carols and members joined in the singing of the Christmas hymns. Mrs Kelling (piano) and Mrs Tweedy (banjo) gave two very much appreciated items. Competitions were won by Mrs Jeff's and Mrs Kri miner. The monthly competitions resulted '; follows - Best bloom: Mrs Temple 1, rs Starnes 2. Toffee, Mrs Starnes nd Mrs Low.
