TO MEET STRICKLAND

RICHARDS PREPARED TO COME TO NEW ZEALAND MANAGER’S REPLY [United Press Association] PALMERSTON N., 28th December. A reply was to-day received by Mr Charlie Lucas from Mr Jack Munro, manager of Ron Richards, the Australian light-heavyweight, that Richards is prepared to meet Maurice Strickland in New Zealand. “The whole matter now hinges on whether Richards can get his money out of New Zealand,” said Mr Lucas, “and though the purse will have to be heavy, I still think the bout will take place. “I want to correst the impression that I am promoting the fight,” added Mr Lucas. “Under the rules of the New Zealand Boxing Council, bouts can only be promoted by an affiliated association, and as an individual I am debarred from arranging any matches, and all I can do is to assist an association in staging bouts under their auspices.
