MEDICAL EXAMINATION
7/- PER DAY PAID [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] WELLINGTON, This Day. An urgent question by Mr H. S. S. Kyle (National, Riccarton) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon asked the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) to explain the discrepancy between the payment of 7s received by men called in the ballot three weeks ago after medical examination, and the 14s received by men medically examined on Monday of this week. The Minister said that the medical examination of the men who received 14s must have involved attendance on two days. Any man who attended for medical examination (including X-ray examination) was entitled to 7s for each day or part of a day that was involved. As far as possible, it was arranged that on a man’s attending for medical examination he attended on the same day at the hospital for X-ray examination. If, however, the X-ray examination could not be made on the same day as the medical examination, and the man was required to attend on another day for that purpose, he b®* came entitled to a further 7s.
