PATRIOTIC FARM
PEA PICKERS URGENTLY WANTED £IOO RAISED LAST WEEK Last week, a splendid band of willing helpers assisted in picking the first crop of peas on the Patriotic Farm at Hope and from advice just to hand it is expected that the second crop will be ready to pick early next week. The City Patriotic Committee makes an earnest appeal to residents of the city and district to again assist in this worthy patriotic effort. It is felt that there are a very large number of people who are able to give a day in helping this work and thereby showing their patriotic spirit in a practical manner. Pickers will be required on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday of next week unless advised to the contrary and are asked to communicate with the hon. secretary of the Women’s National Reserve, Miss L. Turton, phone 1574 or the hon. secretary of the Patriotic Committee, Mr F. V. Powell, phone 1215. At least 50 pickers are urgently wanted each day and it is essential for transport reasons, that the names of all helpers be handed in at once. Pickers are asked to take their own lunch and a cup and something to kneel on. Tea will be provided. Free transport will be arranged for those who have no means of travelling and will leave town each morning at 8 a.m. returning in the late afternoon. Fur those using their own cars, a number of petrol coupons are available. Residents are earnestly asked to make some sacrifice and make this one of their patriotic efforts. Last week’s picking brought in well over £IOO to the funds.
