SECRET SESSION

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON PROCEEDINGS 21 SPEAKERS TAKE PART [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] WELLINGTON, This Day. A secret session was held by the House of Representatives last night to enable members to heat and discuss the latest developments in the country’s war effort. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m.. after the tea adjournment the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, drew the attention of Mr Speaker to the presence of “strangers.” Actually the only “strangers” were members of the Press Gallery and messengers on duty in the chamber. They immediately withdrew from the immediate precincts. and the usual precautions were, taken to ensure a secret discussion. When the secret session ended at 12.50 o’clock this morning the following official statement was issued under the direction of the Speaker, Mr Barnard:— “The Prime Minister reviewed developments in the international field since the last secret session. The present position in the various theatres of war was also dealt with. He indicated the progress made in the provision of munitions and supply generally. The problems of local defence and the steps taken to meet the requirements of the situation were outlined by him.” A total of 21 other speakers took part in the debate.
