ANNEXATION OF LORRAINE

FLAGRANT VIOLATION OF ARMISTICE [U.P.A.—By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] LONDON, Ist December. T H e annexation of Lorraine has involved the breaking of three promises by Herr Hitler, who has more than once shown the world that promises are made only to be broken when it suits. By seizing Lorraine, he has once more be ied his claim: “I have made my last territorial claim in Europe,” and he ha<; also broken the pledge given many times before the war that Germany’s western frontier was fixed and that he had no designs on Alsace-Lorraine. Finally, the latest piece of plundering is a flagrant violation of the armistice. Herr Hitler has thus thrown off the and seized Lorraine from France before even persuading the Vichy Government to sign a fresh treaty. He has thus violated the armistice under which the French nation was induced to lay down its arms instead of continuing the struggle at the side of its ally.

F'-ee Frenchmen who are continuing at the side of Britain have announced that, piece by piece, they will gather together the French territories handed to the enemy.
