PUBLIC FUNCTION AT BRIGHTWATER
SOLDIERS ON LEAVE ENTERTAINED PRESENTATIONS FROM RESIDENTS On two different occasions recently the people of Brightwater turned out in large numbers to do honour to three local men who were home on leave. The' first evening was arranged for Mr R. Moulder, formerly postmaster at ( Brightwater, who has joined the navy as a wireless telegraphist. There was|' a large number present from Brightwater and the surrounding districts, j The evening took the form of a social | and all present thoroughly .enjoyed the [ games and competitions which were i cleverly presented by the M.C., Mr j Russell. The programme included a , number of greatly appreciated solos. I After supper had been served. Mr W. | , [Martin, chairman of the Brightwater j j i Patriotic Committee, presented Mr, ( i Moulder with a small gift on behalf of ; j the people of Brightwater. Mr Martin j I a id several others spoke highly of Mr Moulder’s good qualities, wished him! the best of luck and a safe and speedy return to Brightwater. When Mr Moulder rose to reply he ! was greeted with the spontaneous sing- i ing of “For he’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” A very pleasant evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and th? National Anthem. On Thursday last another evening i was arranged for Lance-Corporal C. L. Wendelbourne and Private G. Har- I man The evening took the form of a community sing, social and dance. The large number present spoke well for the popularity of the two young men concerned. The community sing, under the leadership of Mr Eden, of Wakefield, went off with a swing, the round “Threfe Blind Mice” being a masterpiece, the leader having much more difficulty in stopping it than he did in starting it. The sing was interspersed with some enjoyable songs and recitations Before supper was served, Mr Martin presented the two guests of honour with a fountain pen each from the citize \s of Brightwater. wished them God’s j speed and a safe return to their home 1 village. Supper was then served, after which J the hall was cleared for dancing.
