VANDALS ON THE MOTUEKA BEACH

«. [To the Editor] Sir,—The committee of the Motueka 1 Safe Bathing Society at considerable j time and expense are endeavouring to | improve and beautify the Motueka I beach camping ground and holiday resort. But they are up against a hard proposition, when the public and! visitors do not endeavour to protect their own property and equipment and resort to mischief and vandalism. Recently the caretaker planted flowers etc. but vandals have repeatedly uprooted and destroyed them. Children have been blamed for this sort of mischief. Quoting a recent example: On Friday afternoon two women (I cannot term them ladies) drove up got out and immediately proceeded to uproot and remove flowers, roots and all, and drove away. When remonstrated with, they excused their behaviour by stating they thought the plants were growing wild. The act was both petty and contemptible and an example should be made of such offenders.—l am etc., BEACH RESIDENT. Motueka, 29th November.
